Christmas on the Pearl

The Captain's quarters are set. The large desk has been cleared of Jack's personal goods. The rest of the room is neat and orderly, as it tends to be (much to Gibbs' constant surprise). Whatever chairs can be found belowdecks have been dragged up by the first mate, creating a cozy feel.

The desk and the larger chests are covered with oilcloth, which serve as crude tablecloths. The ship's hodgepodge of dishes, cups and silverware, plundered from many ports and ships, sit near a selection of traditional holiday treats, from ham to mincepie. At the center of the desk, there is a crystal decanter with a gold nameplate saying "Captain Jack Sparrow", filled with red wine, surrounded by matching glasses.

And there is a small, sparsely decorated tree in a corner near the hammock.

It's Christmas on the Black Pearl. Welcome.

Rachel's answer to the shrug was a feral grin full of shadows.

"For your time or physically?" she asked curiously. After all, there were differences in social quirks and physical oddity.

She held up a hand then, one finger lifted as if to make a point "There would be your key word. Waiting. You've been given time, to plan perhaps, to settle yourself for the task ahead..." or so the wise would consider it.

"I know Alanna" she answered, her smile bright as a summer's day and chasing the shadows away for a moment.

"Jack looks for freedom, Gibbs. The chance to sail and never stop...when and if the time comes, then I guess you get to decide if you love it that much as well, or would prefer waters you know."

"He hasn't found it, you know. Miss Swann told me that I'm destined to go back to the place we left off at and go on a quest to bring him back. To life. And our world. Whatever this place is, for him it's not freedom yet." He's a little surprised to be saying this to anyone, least of all a stranger so young. But Rachel has that way of making people talk, doesn't she?

"Jack seems to like challenge and conflict as much as he does adventure" Rachel chuckled. "So argue all you like"

"Bonus points if we end up dunking her."

"I know" she agreed. One could tell by standing near Jack that his story wasn't finished yet. No, not even close.

"But would it be worth having if it was so easy to find?" she offered in kind, flame drowning the emerald in her eyes for a moment.

Elizabeth looks a little taken aback. Physically? Well, maybe she is a little too thin and wears men's clothing quite easily...

Hastily, she shakes herself.

"Socially," she answers. "I'm considered far too bold. Also, I've always had an alarming interest in pirates, to hear my father speak of it."

Time. It's not that Elizabeth doesn't appreciate that way of looking at things, it's just that she's ready to act. Two months of examining her predicament has been more than enough.

"I suppose," said sulkily.

"And that's one reason we get along so well," Alanna says with a cheeky smile. "I'll watch. I hear there's a plank around here somewhere..."

'Not for Jack, no. And he's had his opportunities. Had he wanted, all those years he was without the Pearl, he could have found a crew and a ship and started over. But she's all he ever wanted." And Gibbs finds himself smiling.

"And maybe that's all we want, too. T' see Jack bein' Jack."

Rachel laughed at that, flame creeping into her hair and dancing merrily at the sound "Is that all? Girl, you're just fine, because everyone has interests in things they shouldn't, and Bold is just another word for intelligent at times, which is never a bad thing. I think I'd call you're social circle idiots and ignore them from now on"

"And I won't change your mind, if you're bound and determined to hate this place"

Jack grins wickedly down at her and gestures around them at the Pearl.

"Just ask her."

Raven grins back, not quite grabbing the plate out of her hand.

"I am, I think, always hungry, so."

It is not apologetic in the least.

"Heyyy...I forgot pirates had planks!" she admitted with a grin."Think Jack would tell us where it was if we asked nicely?"

"Can be winter without being all over snow," he answers, but then he relents, grinning wickedly.

"'Course, it is pretty. Even if it's cold."

At one point when she is looking around, she will find a skinny, grinning man looking back.

Raven, it must be said, is occasionally an ass.

But it is Christmas.

Maybe he will control himself.

"Not so cold here, though. It's that magic, isn't it?" The tone is not so much disapproving as just curious.

Rachel glanced around at the Pearl and grinned, then deliberately repeated the question to the beautiful ship. Pearl didn't seem inclined to refute Jack's answer, so Rachel laughed.

"Works for me"

With a wicked grin, Jack leans in and kisses her cheek -- for once.

"Happy Christmas to you."

"And since you hadn't managed to find the food...I thought it best to bring it before I felt someone starving" Rachel chuckled, not expecting an apology at all.

"It'd ruin the party to have one of the guests waste away, and then we'd all be sad"

Jack's smile is wickedly sharp, and black eyes are glittering, but he sounds amiable enough.

Rachel listened solemnly to Gibbs's realization before nodding "You know, I think you'd do well in Alanna's seas, and I don't think Jack could ask for a better first mate"

"Didn't know what shape you'd show up wearing," comes the lazy drawl from behind him.

"Hello, mate."

Raven laughs, head tilted back.

"Mostly it takes longer than a day, I think. But I am grateful, nonetheless."

"Hello, son."

Jack's grin is a touch wry, and he brings up one hand to touch his hat as he nods to Hannah.

"And I see you've brought the lass along again."

Raven tilts his head back, regarding Jack from an upside down vantage point.

"It is, perhaps, part of the suspense, yes?"

Then he turns around in truth, grinning.

"You are, I hope, not so disappointed at the lack of breasts?"

Still uneasy, Elizabeth spends much of her time apart from others, looking around. It's hard to miss the skinny, grinning man, but Elizabeth only spares him a brief glance before turning away once more.

Is he staring at her with that ever so slightly disturbing grin of his? And why does he feel familiar?

Eyes narrowing, Elizabeth looks back and offers a sarcastic sort of wave.
