Christmas on the Pearl

The Captain's quarters are set. The large desk has been cleared of Jack's personal goods. The rest of the room is neat and orderly, as it tends to be (much to Gibbs' constant surprise). Whatever chairs can be found belowdecks have been dragged up by the first mate, creating a cozy feel.

The desk and the larger chests are covered with oilcloth, which serve as crude tablecloths. The ship's hodgepodge of dishes, cups and silverware, plundered from many ports and ships, sit near a selection of traditional holiday treats, from ham to mincepie. At the center of the desk, there is a crystal decanter with a gold nameplate saying "Captain Jack Sparrow", filled with red wine, surrounded by matching glasses.

And there is a small, sparsely decorated tree in a corner near the hammock.

It's Christmas on the Black Pearl. Welcome.

Jack's grinning, almost wild with relief, as he surveys everything.

"Much more better."

Rach would never correct his english...because it was the thought that counted.

That and she'd never really learned it proper herself. So, she just grinned, though it was a shadow laced expression...and hesitantly offered a hug. Tofu...

Well, it left a mark.

There's no hesitation on Jack's side, though. Swaying a little, he slips an arm around her waist and draws her in, pressing a quick kiss to the wild fire of her hair.

"Ah, luv." The rough tone is rueful and wry. "Quite an adventure we've had, aye?"

They should have expected the shadowed adventures, as well as the bright ones huh? Should have...

She leaned thankfully into the hug, and yes, she even put up with the kiss, though there were very few who could get away with such...

"Another one to remember and change about a bit when the stories build" she agreed. "I'm trying to convince myself that it wasn't so bad."

"Not so bad," he assures her. "Never is when you're still standing at the end of it, savvy? No matter how."

"Hmmm" she stated firmly. Not an agreement, no, but not a disagreement either. Standing really wasn't how she reckoned successes...

"Does floating count?"
pirate_jack: (she's only a ship)

"'Course it does."

Jack grins wickedly down at her and gestures around them at the Pearl.

"Just ask her."

Rachel glanced around at the Pearl and grinned, then deliberately repeated the question to the beautiful ship. Pearl didn't seem inclined to refute Jack's answer, so Rachel laughed.

"Works for me"

"It's good to have things back to..." He almost says normal, but that never applies here. "Back. And in time for the Lord's birthday."

"Can't argue with that."

Jack flashes a quick grin at him.

"Happy Christmas, Mr. Gibbs."

"Happy Christmas, Captain." He returns the smile.

"Almost feels like a proper Christmas here. Was always too warm in Tortuga for December. I don't miss winters much, but Christmas should be chilly." Not cold, or snowy, but certainly not sunny like it's still July.

He can't help but make a face, giving an elaborate shudder in the process.

"There's snow." Jack slants a curious look at Gibbs, adding, "Don't tell me you actually like snow?"

"Not so much like snow as not miss the heat, Cap'n. Weather should come in seasons. Easter gets spring, Christmas gets winter." He's a over full century before Victorian romanticization of Christmas, but at least for him it's got some beginnings.

"Can be winter without being all over snow," he answers, but then he relents, grinning wickedly.

"'Course, it is pretty. Even if it's cold."

"Not so cold here, though. It's that magic, isn't it?" The tone is not so much disapproving as just curious.
pirate_jack: (knowing smile)

"Aye. Riddle's work, that," Jack confirms. "Useful sort of trick."

"I suppose. But I'm still finding the magic here...odd. And after all we';ve see, I'm not sure how wise it is to tinker with such things." By which he means the Kraken and the Curse, and not anything in the Bar.
pirate_jack: (jack looking at compass)

Re: Arrivals

[personal profile] pirate_jack 2006-12-27 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Much more better to know what it is you're tinkering with," he observes. "Or to have another be the one to be doing so."

The purple stone of the ring on his left hand gleams in the light as he absently brushes his hand over his compass, ensuring that it's still there.

"All manner of useful still, though, savvy?"

"Yes, but you'll forgive me if I feel a mite...cautious." Not, he knows, that it will do any good with Jack.
