Christmas on the Pearl

The Captain's quarters are set. The large desk has been cleared of Jack's personal goods. The rest of the room is neat and orderly, as it tends to be (much to Gibbs' constant surprise). Whatever chairs can be found belowdecks have been dragged up by the first mate, creating a cozy feel.
The desk and the larger chests are covered with oilcloth, which serve as crude tablecloths. The ship's hodgepodge of dishes, cups and silverware, plundered from many ports and ships, sit near a selection of traditional holiday treats, from ham to mincepie. At the center of the desk, there is a crystal decanter with a gold nameplate saying "Captain Jack Sparrow", filled with red wine, surrounded by matching glasses.
And there is a small, sparsely decorated tree in a corner near the hammock.
It's Christmas on the Black Pearl. Welcome.

Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 07:57 pm (UTC)"By most standards, I'm considered the same," she admits. "I do not care."
By choice? The very idea is alien. For all her pride and temper, Elizabeth isn't stupid and can imagine instances in which living here might be preferable to a person's home, but she doesn't dwell on it.
"Perhaps it would be easier if I did not have a life or death task waiting for me."
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 08:05 pm (UTC)"For your time or physically?" she asked curiously. After all, there were differences in social quirks and physical oddity.
She held up a hand then, one finger lifted as if to make a point "There would be your key word. Waiting. You've been given time, to plan perhaps, to settle yourself for the task ahead..." or so the wise would consider it.
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 08:17 pm (UTC)Hastily, she shakes herself.
"Socially," she answers. "I'm considered far too bold. Also, I've always had an alarming interest in pirates, to hear my father speak of it."
Time. It's not that Elizabeth doesn't appreciate that way of looking at things, it's just that she's ready to act. Two months of examining her predicament has been more than enough.
"I suppose," said sulkily.
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 08:26 pm (UTC)"And I won't change your mind, if you're bound and determined to hate this place"
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 08:45 pm (UTC)"I don't hate it," she admits softly. "I can do much here that I would not be able to do at home. The people I love are here. And others," she adds at the last, looking away.
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:05 pm (UTC)"So try not to let it bother you so much" Rachel shrugged.
Then she arched an eyebrow, gaze intensifying "Others?" how many ways did Elizabeth categorize people...?
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:12 pm (UTC)"That is easy to say," Elizabeth replies. She still doesn't look at Rachel, studiously avoiding the raised eyebrow.
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:23 pm (UTC)Her regard on the other hand...it was felt like sunlight upon the face, or that final snap in the air as winter gave way to spring.
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:34 pm (UTC)There's something unsettling in those green eyes, she decides.
She smiles a little, blowing on her hands to warm them. "This is too much winter for me."
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:41 pm (UTC)That didn't prevent her form reaching out to gently touch the girl's hands, and then...then there was warmth, spreading and thick Caribbean heat.
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:45 pm (UTC)Her eyes slip closed, and for a moment, her smile is easy and free.
"If that's not magic, I don't know what is."
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 09:50 pm (UTC)"Though it would be worth it maybe to learn how to turn people into frogs..."
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 10:00 pm (UTC)Distracted, she smiles at Rachel.
"Thank you."
Re: Arrivals
Date: 2006-12-27 10:06 pm (UTC)Then she just chuckled "Welcome"
