Christmas on the Pearl

The Captain's quarters are set. The large desk has been cleared of Jack's personal goods. The rest of the room is neat and orderly, as it tends to be (much to Gibbs' constant surprise). Whatever chairs can be found belowdecks have been dragged up by the first mate, creating a cozy feel.

The desk and the larger chests are covered with oilcloth, which serve as crude tablecloths. The ship's hodgepodge of dishes, cups and silverware, plundered from many ports and ships, sit near a selection of traditional holiday treats, from ham to mincepie. At the center of the desk, there is a crystal decanter with a gold nameplate saying "Captain Jack Sparrow", filled with red wine, surrounded by matching glasses.

And there is a small, sparsely decorated tree in a corner near the hammock.

It's Christmas on the Black Pearl. Welcome.

Raven gives Gibbs a look that seems to say 'are you crazy?'

"You are so fond of 'what ifs', then? I am, I think, not so surprised."

"Mister Wellard! Welcome, and Merry Christmas!" Gibbs is quite happy to see the young seaman. "And I see you have a guest." He smiles at the (to his old eyes) very young woman.

"I am fond of not seeing Jack eyeless and a prisoner." Or dead, though that seems to not be an option anymore.

"But what I am fond of is not my concern. The Captain has invited you, same as all the others, and I'll not let that interrupt with the celebrations."

Raven's smile is, for a brief moment, very sharp indeed.

"I am not so fond of cages, either. So."

"How did you meet Jack?" Gibbs practically blurts out the question. Before he loses his nerve.

"Mostly there was drinking."

Raven snorts, perhaps at the memory.

"He is, I think, very fond of rum."

"Future past?"

Eyebrow quirked, Elizabeth studies the other woman.

"You must have been here for some time. It's only been a few months for me."

"Aye, that he is. Indeed, I wold guess that he's met most of his friends that way." It was how he met Gibbs, of course.

"The feet do thank you, no matter what the head says about remaining standing," Alanna laughs, settling into the chair. She's always rather liked this chair. "Jack, naturally. No, I was more curious as to whether or not he had invited Elizabeth and Will."

"It is, perhaps, not so bad a beginning."

In some cases, at least, this is very likely true.

"The future of a world that I later ended up in after shifting the past to ensure such a future never came to pass..." she elaborated. Yes, she was well used to being eyed strangely.

"But yes, I've been here as long as I can manage, ummm, two years maybe? Something like that I'm sure."

"No, it was not." Though if Gibbs remembers any details of the batle he and Jack once fought with a keg of rum - or was it a bottle? - it's only be luck.

"Well, enjoy the feast, and happy Christmas," Gibbs says with just some enough enthusiasm to be a decent host, before avoiding Raven for a while.

Leaning against the port rail, Elizabeth overhears Gibbs's greeting and slowly turns to look at the new arrivals.

Wellard. She feels as if she should know the name. He's obviously well known to Jack's first mate.

Eventually, she wraps chilled fingers around a bottle of rum and saunters over, eyes cautious.

"Good evening."

"For your kids sake, I kinda hope that stubbornness isn't a family trait" she teased. She knew it was a rather hopeless wish, but hey...

"An Elizabeth Swann?" Rachel offered curiously "Not exactly friends of Jack's, but as she put it "Also from the Carribean and having sailed together before" or something like that." she chuckled. "Should I go back and growl at her?"

Elizabeth tries not to gape, but it's just not something you hear every day.

"I take it you have a magical nature, then?" Is anyone here normal? "I am currently bound. It is my very sincere hope that the door reappears before two years passes."

"And to you, I think."

And, quite possibly, Raven is even kind enough to help Gibbs in avoiding him.

Call it a Christmas gift.

Alanna snorts.

"It's more than a family trait. It's a certainty," she replies. "That's the one."

Frowning, she slowly shakes her head and sighs.

"The growl is tempting. We have a fundamental difference of opinion, and thus don't get along very well. She is a spoiled brat, but I suppose I should be charitable in the spirit of today. Glaring, however, is perfectly acceptable."

"Nope, not a magical bone in my body" she chuckled softly, something like flame flickering deep behind the emerald of her eyes. "I'm just generally quirky and strange by most standards"

She tilted her head, bird like at Elizabeth's wish, somehow, it saddened her. "I'm not bound, Elizabeth, but here by choice." she offered a little grimly. "But it's a good place, bound o no, why not simply enjoy what time you have here?"

"Well, I hope it manifests in kinder ways than "I'm staying on my feet, good idea or no" " she laughed.

Then she sobered, like shadows slipping across the sun "She has no idea what to make of me, and I'm certain glaring on my part will be terrifying" she promised. "We'll see if she decides to be a pain."

All told? Rachel made a very good watch dog.

Hunger could be easily remedied, especially when there were perceptive people ghosting about the edges of the party. It probably wasn't surprising that an empath passed a plate of holiday snacks to the newcomer, emerald eyes more than a little amused.

"No" she agreed "It's a place to heal"

Or not heal, depending on the severity of wound.

"And a place to find new paths" she admitted after a moment. "There are greater places than earth to find, worlds of oceans and stars..."

Not completely convinced about the lack of magic, Elizabeth eyes Rachel and lifts one shoulder in a shrug.

"By most standards, I'm considered the same," she admits. "I do not care."

By choice? The very idea is alien. For all her pride and temper, Elizabeth isn't stupid and can imagine instances in which living here might be preferable to a person's home, but she doesn't dwell on it.

"Perhaps it would be easier if I did not have a life or death task waiting for me."

"If Jack is all right with her presence, who am I to argue?"

Casting a sidelong look at Rachel, Alanna wonders how much she will read into that.

"Did you meet Alanna? She's offered to let us sail on an ocean on her world, after she has her babies. I would guess that Jack would be there in an instant." Gibbs is not sure of such things yet, though.
