The Captain's quarters are set. The large desk has been cleared of Jack's personal goods. The rest of the room is neat and orderly, as it tends to be (much to Gibbs' constant surprise). Whatever chairs can be found belowdecks have been dragged up by the first mate, creating a cozy feel.

The desk and the larger chests are covered with oilcloth, which serve as crude tablecloths. The ship's hodgepodge of dishes, cups and silverware, plundered from many ports and ships, sit near a selection of traditional holiday treats, from ham to mincepie. At the center of the desk, there is a crystal decanter with a gold nameplate saying "Captain Jack Sparrow", filled with red wine, surrounded by matching glasses.

And there is a small, sparsely decorated tree in a corner near the hammock.

It's Christmas on the Black Pearl. Welcome.

"Future past?"

Eyebrow quirked, Elizabeth studies the other woman.

"You must have been here for some time. It's only been a few months for me."

"The future of a world that I later ended up in after shifting the past to ensure such a future never came to pass..." she elaborated. Yes, she was well used to being eyed strangely.

"But yes, I've been here as long as I can manage, ummm, two years maybe? Something like that I'm sure."

Elizabeth tries not to gape, but it's just not something you hear every day.

"I take it you have a magical nature, then?" Is anyone here normal? "I am currently bound. It is my very sincere hope that the door reappears before two years passes."

"Nope, not a magical bone in my body" she chuckled softly, something like flame flickering deep behind the emerald of her eyes. "I'm just generally quirky and strange by most standards"

She tilted her head, bird like at Elizabeth's wish, somehow, it saddened her. "I'm not bound, Elizabeth, but here by choice." she offered a little grimly. "But it's a good place, bound o no, why not simply enjoy what time you have here?"

Not completely convinced about the lack of magic, Elizabeth eyes Rachel and lifts one shoulder in a shrug.

"By most standards, I'm considered the same," she admits. "I do not care."

By choice? The very idea is alien. For all her pride and temper, Elizabeth isn't stupid and can imagine instances in which living here might be preferable to a person's home, but she doesn't dwell on it.

"Perhaps it would be easier if I did not have a life or death task waiting for me."

Rachel's answer to the shrug was a feral grin full of shadows.

"For your time or physically?" she asked curiously. After all, there were differences in social quirks and physical oddity.

She held up a hand then, one finger lifted as if to make a point "There would be your key word. Waiting. You've been given time, to plan perhaps, to settle yourself for the task ahead..." or so the wise would consider it.

Elizabeth looks a little taken aback. Physically? Well, maybe she is a little too thin and wears men's clothing quite easily...

Hastily, she shakes herself.

"Socially," she answers. "I'm considered far too bold. Also, I've always had an alarming interest in pirates, to hear my father speak of it."

Time. It's not that Elizabeth doesn't appreciate that way of looking at things, it's just that she's ready to act. Two months of examining her predicament has been more than enough.

"I suppose," said sulkily.

Rachel laughed at that, flame creeping into her hair and dancing merrily at the sound "Is that all? Girl, you're just fine, because everyone has interests in things they shouldn't, and Bold is just another word for intelligent at times, which is never a bad thing. I think I'd call you're social circle idiots and ignore them from now on"

"And I won't change your mind, if you're bound and determined to hate this place"

Unexpectedly, Elizabeth finds herself warming to this odd stranger. She herself has often thought that perhaps she is too intelligent for polite society, and that unsettles those women who insist on spending their days... sewing.

"I don't hate it," she admits softly. "I can do much here that I would not be able to do at home. The people I love are here. And others," she adds at the last, looking away.

Rachel was simply used to ignoring the general opinion as long as she wasn't scaring people. It worked wonders for something close to sanity...

"So try not to let it bother you so much" Rachel shrugged.

Then she arched an eyebrow, gaze intensifying "Others?" how many ways did Elizabeth categorize people...?

Many ways, truth be told. But Jack is the sole occupant of the 'people I have killed' category.

"That is easy to say," Elizabeth replies. She still doesn't look at Rachel, studiously avoiding the raised eyebrow.

"Yes, it is" she agreed simply.

Her regard on the other hand...it was felt like sunlight upon the face, or that final snap in the air as winter gave way to spring.

Elizabeth's eye twitches. Unwillingly, she turns her head and looks at Rachel. Really looks.

There's something unsettling in those green eyes, she decides.

She smiles a little, blowing on her hands to warm them. "This is too much winter for me."

Unsettling? Certainly...and Protective...one would almost think she'd fall to growling soon.

That didn't prevent her form reaching out to gently touch the girl's hands, and then...then there was warmth, spreading and thick Caribbean heat.

Elizabeth gasps.

Her eyes slip closed, and for a moment, her smile is easy and free.

"If that's not magic, I don't know what is."

"Just a legacy of my mother" Rachel shrugged. "Flame and memory. Magic is a lot more complicated than a nifty bloodline."

"Though it would be worth it maybe to learn how to turn people into frogs..."

"Or fish," Elizabeth blurts out. "Fish would be useful."

Distracted, she smiles at Rachel.

"Thank you."

"I'd feel bad about turning them into fish..." she admitted. "Fish just kind of flop around...and I'd have to find water..."

Then she just chuckled "Welcome"
